We named our website, SaddleUp because it sums up the philosophy of the Morphettville Riding Centre. At our centre we teach both children and adults the basic art of riding and horsemanship.
Once you can saddle up, you are on the way to one of the most pleasurable relationship you may ever have. While many riders aspire to perfection in the art of dressage, many more aspire to more humble rewards.
The Morphettville Riding centre was established in the mid-nineties when proprietor, Rob Clarken bought a pony for his son, Will. One pony led to another and today the numbers have grown to many more. Will learnt so much from his first pony that he competed successfully at horse shows. After leaving school he became a very successful apprentice jockey. Today he runs a large racing and agistment farm.
Many of our students have found their way in the horse industry from Australia to Dubai.
Learning to ride is a never ending learning process. At our centre we encourage our students to begin this fascinating journey by immediately forming bonds with their mounts. There is only one way to forge this bond and that is with a nice soft body brush. There has never been a horse or a human who has disliked a scratch and a massage. After the pony has had a nice groom, the riders will clean the pony hooves with a hoof-pick to make sure there are not stones that could make the horse lame. Then it’s time to saddle up!
The Morphettville Riding Centre is located in Latimer Crescent, Trott Park. We conduct basic riding lessons at $45 per hour or a block of 5 lessons for $200. One on one lessons are $55 per hour.
During school holidays we do 90 minutes sessions at $55 per morning. Three day camps are available at the Coorong.
The Morphettville Riding Centre also provides horse treks in the Flinders Ranges as well as the Coorong (POA). These treks are held in conjunction and with the permission of the traditional owners.
Supervision
The Morphettville Riding School provides supervision for riders during their arranged lesson and camp times. However parents should be aware that we cannot guarantee supervision for riders wishing to remain at the centre for extended periods of time.
What to Wear
All riders must wear a correctly fitted riding helmet in accordance with Australian safety standards. Helmets are available at no charge for students who do not have their own. Riding boots are the preferred footwear, and students are encouraged to purchase boots and a helmet if they make a commitment to regular lessons. Coats, drinks and sunscreen should be sent when appropriate and we will ensure your child uses them. Please note our heat rule for the cancellation of lesson is 35 degrees Celsius.
